One of the most successful American Idol winners was the series first, Kelly Clarkson. Kelly was born in 1982 in Fort Worth, TX, to a teacher and engineer. In 2002 at the age of 20 her dreams of becoming a world famous singer came true. She has sold over 20 million records worldwide and received numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards. She also cashes in on live performances and several endorsement projects. Currently she is estimated to have a net value of $24million.
Following the show’s huge first year ratings Americans chose Ruben Studdard as the second winner of American Idol. In 1978 Rubben was born in Frankfurt, Germany while his father was stationed there. His parents, both teachers, soon moved to Birmingham, AL where music took an important place in his life from a very young age. After years of struggling, Rubben was crowned the American Idol winner in 2003. He has since released four albums, toured around the world, appeared in movies and TV, and has been nominated for one Grammy. Today Rubben is worth between $3- $4million.
In 1984, Diane and Joseph Barrino gave birth to a baby girl whom they named Fantasia. They raised their daughter in North Carolina. Life was not easy for the Barrino family (which Fantasia latter went on to depict in a TV movie about her life). But, when Fantasia was crowned the 3rd winner of American Idol in 2004 life got much better. Fantasia’s albums have been certified both Gold and Platinum, she has starred on Broadway and in film. She has been nominated for 7 Grammy Awards, with one win, and sells out performances around the world. Today she is said to be worth around $5 million.
The most successful Idol winner to date is a girl who was born in 1983 in Muskogee, OK, Carrie Underwood. The daughter of a teacher and sawmill worker, she was raised on a farm. As the 4th winner of American Idol in 2005, Carrie has gone on to become a hugely successful Country music artist. Her albums are certified as multi-platinum selling records. She has won 5 Grammy Awards, along with many other awards. Some of her other awards were for the Billboard Music Awards, The American Music Awards, and the Academy of Country Music to name a few. She has been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry , the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and The Guinness Book of World Records! Today this Country princess has a net value of over $45 million.
